Elastomeric coatings for Aircraft and Aerospace Components provide resistance to erosion and chemical and exhibit ice phobic characteristics

Start Your Project

Ames has collaborated with several aerospace programs and several different manufacturers to develop erosion-resistant thin elastomer coatings for aircraft  components. Known for our expertise in accurately applying thin coatings to round fuser rollers, Ames has enhanced these capabilities for aerospace applications. AMESShield™  Aircraft Elastomeric Coatings protect propulsion and other irregular and complex shaped components from damage and erosion due to FOD, while providing excellent ice-phobic properties.

Effective protection against erosion caused by sand and other
Foreign Objects and Debris (FOD)

Significantly improved resistance to erosion, compared to a wide range of coatings including urethane and Teflon, when applied to both titanium and composite substrates.

Greatly improved ice phobic characteristics

Greatly improved ice phobic characteristics Ice adhesion tests revealed that the AMESShield process yielded ice adhesion results that were less than 1/10th of other coating materials.

Durability to withstand exposure to various harsh environments

After exposure to various chemicals, including salt spray, jet fuel, and propylene glycol, both ice adhesion and erosion results were still better than the unexposed alternative samples.

Features & Benefits

Multilayer coatings employ our proprietary bonding and coating technologies enabling compliant and surface performance characteristics for use with metal, polymer and composite materials.

Variety of natural low energy polymers are expertly applied to resist damage and erosion from FOD.

Ice phobic properties of material facilitates shedding of ice at significantly less pressure levels than alternative coatings.

Controlled adhesion to ensure reliable bonding as well as facilitating removal during scheduled maintenance.

Uniform multilayer film build to ensure total coverage and maximum aerodynamic condition.

Our coating techniques include non-electrostatic and electrostatic-based systems capable of applying a range from a few microns of specialty materials to 20-30 mils. Typical applications are comprised of 20 layers as thin as 0.5 mils each, with total thickness of 10 mils.

High temperature resistance up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Our manufacturing environment includes a class 100 clean room with a range of coating capabilities to support product development for our clients.
